who the hell attacks aid ships, I ask

Why is it when it's something about Gaza and Palestine there's almost no noise at all about it? From BBC News: Deaths as Israeli forces storm Gaza aid ship; from Malaysia's The Star, which reports: Two Malaysians on board aid ship attacked by Israeli warship.

I find this completely unacceptable.

Sigh. With that, on to what I was originally going to post. This was drafted earlier, when I wasn't feeling all that disgruntled with the world.

Final Fantasy Exchange gifts were revealed last week! (This journal: definitely not the place to find breaking news.) I'm just glad to say I had managed to escape from being doinked by the tonberry, even with my horrible last minute efforts.

Here's the gift I received, Forget-me-not by Person, and I love how it fits neatly into the FFVIII canon. It's about Ellone and Irvine, and being the only ones who remember, and I really like how Irvine is portrayed in this.

There are lots more stuff posted at the exchange here: DOINK! Final Fantasy Exchange 2010 so go take a look. I haven't found the chance yet to trawl the archive, but I'm sure there are a lot of awesome stuff.

Like this piece of fanart, Valediction (Final Fantasy X, Yuna and her aeons), by [personal profile] cumuluscastle which is so gorgeous, omg, and so soft and sad.

The fic I wrote for [personal profile] darthneko is here: All Things New Again, Final Fantasy VIII. Fun family times with Laguna, Squall and Ellone, mostly. Except when it's not so fun.

This may sound abysmally stupid, but I forgot to change the title. *headdesk* It was a working title, and I'll admit that I don't have a better title, even now, though I can't uh really see what's the connection to the fic. Um. Hooray me? /o\

Seriously, this thing left me a wreck. I was sneakily writing bits and pieces of this at work because it ate my brain. I couldn't think of the fic without wanting to burst into tears because I kept thinking the fic was horrible, even though logically I knew it wasn't. Though I was pretty sure it wasn't what my recipient would have wanted. It just veered away from the prompt and I didn't know what to do. (It was supposed to be a spy story set in Esthar, I swear. Except the spy fell into a plothole somewhere and couldn't manage to get out.) It didn't have time to go to a beta, and at that point of time I don't think I could have gone through the fic again even if I had the kindest, most patient person betaing it for me -- I think I was probably burnt out by it and didn't want to see it ever again. (Other personal problems that got in the way didn't help.)

Feel free to nitpick it now, though. I think leaving it alone for a week gave it the distance it needed. Note to self: don't wait till the last minute to finish a fic again. It will only end in tears!

Now I have to go and relinquish my claim on bug #1813 before I forget. Poor bug. I can't seem to find time for it, and each time I look at it after a few days, I forgot what it was I had done earlier. Another note to self: don't claim these CSS bugs any more, please, you'll just make yourself feel horrible later. >.> I should finish up poor Strata instead, and get a patch for it submitted, and help cut down the number of styles that need conversion in [site community profile] dreamscapes.

Do you mean here or on the news? This is the second biggest news item in Germany right now. Right after the one where my country's President apparently just resigned ^^

And I have no words for this. No fucking words *incoherent rage*

Well, when I say 'just' I really mean an hour ago or so, so even the world news might not have picked it up yet. It was rather unexpected. And, well, the President not the actual "ruling" part over here, so it won't affect politics a lot.

How do I put this -- when it was about the Iranian election there seemed to be support everywhere, but most it comes to issues about Israel and Palestine, no one seems to notice.

*nods* Certainly in some circles, yeah. I am not sure if it's saturation or ignorance or whatever. It's just that this particular issue has already shown up four times on my reading list today, so I seem to have a different experience of how much it is discussed :)

Huh. I hadn't been to the news page yet, having only been up 20 minutes, but when I pulled up Google News the very first article at the top of the page was the one about Israeli troops storming an aid ship.

(The bit about Germany's president resigning was not on the main page, but did appear on the "World News" section when I clicked--sixth item down.)

Sometimes Google News is really strange in what it decides to show. (Protip, Google: I care about neither Lindsay Lohan nor Tiger Woods; can I please find out about INTERESTING stuff like technological widgets?)

I saw it in the news as well, though I've heard that the reason the Israelis stormed it is they requested the ship dock to let them inspect their cargo before transporting it to Gaza (to make sure there weren't any weapons) and they refused to do so. Then they attacked the Israelis when they boarded the ship.

Not that it justifies the deaths, really, but I've heard there were other aid ships that got to Gaza without any trouble because they were OK letting the Israelis see their cargo...
