Hey guys! Anyone got any Harry Potter femslash recs? Hermione/Ginny would be nice, but anything well-written and enjoyable will do. I need to spam someone with those. XD XD
Why? Here's an IM conversation, edited for sanity's sake, and posted with the other party's full consent, heh.
Y: So what are you reading next?
A: The last Harry Potter book, only getting to it now. Don't know what to get after that.
Y: I thought you wanted to read the new Sarah Waters book.
[Waters's newest book, The Little Stranger, was on the Man Booker shortlist earlier this year. (Hilary Mantel's Wolf Hall won the prize.) I've only read Fingersmith by Waters, and rather liked it, the friend has read perhaps all the books, and she loves Waters. She generally likes GBLT lit, as far as I can tell.]
A: But it's expensive!
Y: Yeah, we'll have to wait for the paperback version -- that'll take a while.
A: Looks like this time the main characters aren't lesbians. Don't know whether it'll be as good as the other books.
. . . Haha, that's just weird bias -- I like Harry Potter well enough even though no one's gay.
[You'd be filled with evil, corrupting thoughts at this moment too, wouldn't you? I didn't even try resisting.]
Y: Make up your own stories. Anyone can have a relationship with anyone. Say . . . Hermione and, uh, Ginny Weasley.
A: Haha. Like that's going to happen.
Y: . . . I'm completely serious. There are people out there writing about Hermione/Ginny.
A: What!? Where?
[I did a quick search over at AO3 and ended up with this fic: Imperfection. I didn't even read the fic; I just wanted to show her it existed.]
A: . . . Those two would be cute together. How do you know these things? It's not fair.
[I was, at this moment, dying of laughter this end of the internet. I should've tried dragging people into fic earlier. ]
Y: I know lots about things like these. Lottssss. There's fanfiction about almost everything, if you know where to look. About anything you can think of, I'm sure.
A: Huh.
Y: Even pairings you never thought of!
A: Like . . . Hermione and Fleur?
Y: There'd be tons of that. (said I rather negligently. I didn't even check.) What do you think of say . . . Harry Potter/Prof Snape?
A: Whaaat?
Y: Not kidding. There are 118 fics in this archive, and many many more elsewhere.
A: That's just crazy. How would that work?
Y: XD. Imagination. How about Harry/Draco?
A: Huh? That definitely won't work.
Y: Oh man. That pairing is (was?) super popular. I don't pay much attention to the HP fandom, don't really know what's going on. And it depends on how good the writer is. Seriously, though, some of the the fics are better than published books.
A: . . . How did I manage to miss this train.
Y: XD XD XD
A lot of flailing around ensued. And then I tried to pitch Archive of Our Own again. :P
