this week's adventures in sewing
Saturday, 6 November 2010 09:23 pmThis weekend's project: a pouch! I made this after spending a few minutes before bed the last week pondering the one I got from an aunt as a gift, wondering how to attach the zip without having the whole thing fall apart.

Then I thought, semicircles! That solves the whole thing!

And after some geeky moments of calculations involving pi and radius of circles, I managed to figure out how how much fabric I needed and the minimum length of a zip needed to make it work. It still doesn't look quite right. It's a bit lopsided, and the freemotion quilting was made of fail, though not as faily as the first attempt (I don't think I'll ever get the hang of quilting -- I'm just not that terribly interested in it) and the stitches attaching the zip are crooked, but some practice will fix that, I think. (And generous use of the stitch picker. That is always important.)

Also it's the first time I'm trying out my new zipper foot! I think it's kinda awesome. The old one I had gave me so much trouble; I just couldn't figure out how to set the distances properly.
Now I go off to play with tags.
