yati: (chain of memories)
[personal profile] yati
I meant to do this each week, in groups of sevens, but I . . . just kept getting too mired in other things? So here it is, at the end of the Three Weeks celebration -- I think it's a good introductory thing especially with all the folks from the subscription memes around. Hello!

1. Why did you sign up for Dreamwidth?
Mostly I've been disillusioned by LiveJournal by the time, and [personal profile] afuna had talked a bit about Dreamwidth in her journal. I was curious, so I came along to see what it was like, and enjoyed being here, so I decided to stay. :D It's also thanks to [personal profile] afuna that I got an invite before open beta started. I converted my account to a paid account almost immediately after payment options were available, and I'm happy to report I love it here still.

2. Why did you choose your journal name?
It's my name. :) A diminutive of my legal name, and it's what people in real life actually call me. It's a pretty common Malay girl's name; there was always another Yati in my year when I was at school.

3. Do you crosspost? Why or why not?
I still have an LJ, but I don't crosspost any more. I used to (and sometimes I think I should continue doing so) but something LJ did thoroughly annoyed me (can't remember which incident it was now) that I simply stopped.

4. What do you do online when you're not on DW?
Hmm. Now that I think of it, it seems like I spend most of my time online on Dreamwidth! Even things that I don't read on Dreamwidth is often pointed out by someone posting links on Dreamwidth. I read fanfic. I read news online, as well as a number of non-DW/LJ bloggers as well, usually via Google Reader. I like hanging out at Goodreads, though I don't do much aside from lurk in certain groups. I also am a tag wrangler for AO3, though I don't spend too much time wrangling any more; the fandoms I take care of are pretty quiet.

I used to do some dev stuff for Dreamwidth, usually things related to the style system. (I have two patches committed; I am still so absurdly proud over that.) I've fallen behind mostly because of lack of time, but I'd love to get back to it some time.

5. How about when you're not on the computer?
I read. Fiction, generally, and a lot of it science fiction and fantasy. I watch television, though not much of it, I'm rather picky when it comes to TV. I play videogames on the PS2. I putter about in the garden. I sew, usually small pouches and tote bags and cute tiny things.

6. What do you wish people who read your journal knew about you?
. . . I have no idea. I don't bite? I'm at +8 UTC, so I never post or comment when everyone else seems to be online. I am terrible at comments, but I read almost everything on my reading list.

7. What is your favourite community on Dreamwidth?
I like [community profile] omnomnom, even though I don't cook much. Recipes are interesting!

8. What community do you wish was more active?
Er. I'm not that much of a community person, I suppose. Reading through the personal journals always seemed enough for me. (I usually read posts in communities because other people post links to those posts.) I can't think of a single one I wish was more active right now.

9. Are there two people on your reading list that you think should meet?
I think I should meet everyone! Though I'd probably be horribly awkward and all tongue-tied when meeting people in real life. >.<

10. Tell me about your default icon.
It's of Flonne and Laharl, from the videogame Disgaea: Hour of Darkness! It's still my favourite tactical RPG ever, no lie. One of my favourite games too. I chose it because Flonne looks ridiculously happy in it and Laharl so grumpy at being squished.

11. What features do you think Dreamwidth should have that it doesn't currently?
Scheduled posting! Also I'm looking forward to the "Memories" feature revamp -- I hope it'll become more useful than it currently is!

12. What do you consider the five most "telling" interests from the list on your profile? Why?
Err. Upon doing this meme, I realised that I haven't even put any interests in my profile. ^^;;; I'll probably update that, one of these days.

13. Do you have any unique interests on your user profile? What are they? How'd they get there?
See above.

14. Did you have a gateway fandom? Still in it? Why or why not? Is there a community for it on DW?
Final Fantasy VIII, I think. I was somewhat in the outer fringes of The X-Files fandom, courtesy of my mother (my mother: the coolest woman ever -- she introduced me to fanfic) but it was FFVIII that actually pulled me into fandom proper; actually interacting with other people and eventually writing fic of my own. Still in it, most definitely, mostly because other fans are still around and it's still popular! Not sure if there's a specific community for the game on DW, I've never bothered to look. (I'd bet that there is one, though.)

15. What's your current obsession? What about it captures your imagination?
Doctor Who. Which is a bit odd because I normally don't care much about television. But this season has been intriguing so far (okay, except that pirate episode -- probably the most interesting thing in that one was the return of the Doctor's red bowtie), and I think it's the good writing and the clever plot twists, and I think the Doctor is brilliant. XD

16. What are you glad you did but haven't really had a chance to post about?
My birthday was just a few days ago -- there were some things relating to it I had wanted to post about but hadn't found the time!

17. How many people on your reading list do you know IRL?
Three, I think. Only one of them has ever posted. XD

18. What don't you talk about here, either because it's too personal or because you don't have the energy?
Religion, mostly. It's just exhausting.

19. Any questions from the audience?
Questions, anyone?

20. Yes, but what are your thoughts on yaoi?
Why not?

21. What's your favourite thing about Dreamwidth?

The splitting of access/subscription and not calling it "Friends". It's made life much, much easier.
